Money is energy, mija
Breaking generational cycles and building abundance without shame.
Mija, let’s talk about money.

April is Financial Literacy Month, and I don’t just want to talk about numbers in a bank account. I want to talk about the kind of money that carries emotional weight. The kind that brings up guilt, shame, fear, and pressure.
For years, I didn’t realize how much my mindset around money affected my ability to receive it. Like many first-generation Latina immigrants, I was raised with a survival mentality. I wasn’t taught to save or invest. I was taught to work hard and spend, and then feel guilty for not doing it “right.”
At some point, I developed the need to hold on to every dollar, because uno nunca sabe when the next one will come. I had all my basic needs met, but I still remember envying the girls who had the Barbie car or the latest toys.
The wealthy people I saw growing up weren’t always the most humble. That shaped how I saw money, as something disconnected from who I was and what I valued. I didn’t feel safe around the idea of wealth. I didn’t believe it was meant for someone like me. And honestly, even now, I can’t always relate to the idea of being “wealthy.” I’m not poor, but I’m somewhere in between.
As I began my healing and manifesting journey, I realized I had some heavy limiting beliefs about money. And one thing became clear: humility alone doesn’t build wealth.
It took time to unlearn what I thought I knew. To understand that wanting money doesn’t make me greedy. That asking for more isn’t selfish. That it’s not just okay, it’s necessary to want ease, stability, and abundance.

Money? I want it and need it to survive. And now, I say: money loves me, and I love it back.
I’ve realized money isn’t something to be feared or envied. It’s something to be embraced. I’m redefining what it means to have money as a Latina. I’m breaking generational taboos and building a future where wealth isn’t just about surviving. It’s about thriving, without shame, and letting go of beliefs that were never mine to carry.
Let’s start talking about money differently. Let’s embrace it. Let’s respect it. Let’s understand that it’s not about greed, it’s about creating freedom, opportunity, and empowerment. Not just for ourselves, but for our families and communities.
These days, I make spending decisions with intention. I invest in my business and in myself. I say thank you when I pay a bill, because it means I had the money to cover it.
And when I feel doubt or guilt creeping in, I ground myself in these reminders:
Affirmations for the healing, thriving chingona in you:
• Money loves me, and I love it back.
• Every dollar I spend comes back multiplied.
• I am not bad with money. I am learning and unlearning what no one taught me.
• I am a chingona who makes empowered financial decisions.
• I deserve to thrive, not just survive.
• I release shame and embrace abundance, sin miedo, mija.
Say them out loud. Say them in the mirror. Write them in your journal. Let them rewire your nervous system and remind you: you are safe receiving money. You are safe building wealth.
And I’m still learning. Still unlearning. Still healing.
f this speaks to you, I’d love to invite you to my new Chingona Book Club. It won’t always be about finances, but we’re starting with something powerful:
The Psychology of Money — a book that unpacks the emotional and cultural beliefs we carry around money.
We’ll be diving into the habits, blocks, and breakthroughs that affect how we earn, save, spend, and grow — all in a safe space with other Latinas who are doing the work, too.
✨ I only have a couple spots left for this first round and it will be hosted live on Zoom.
Reply to this email with “I’m in” and I’ll send you the details.
And whether or not you join us, just remember:
Money loves you. And you’re allowed to love it back.
With cariño,
Viridiana
